A Special Visitor to The Merchants Hall

A Special Visitor to The Merchants Hall

This month, we were delighted to welcome Camilla Younger, the great-great-granddaughter of Robert Younger, to Merchants’ Hall.

Robert Younger served as Master of the Merchant Company from 1885 to 1886 and owned St Ann’s Brewery at Holyrood. Brewing is clearly in the Younger family’s blood, as Camilla’s late father carried on the tradition at the well-known and well-loved Broughton Brewery.

While looking through their family documents, Camilla uncovered some remarkable pieces of history:

✉️ A letter asking Robert Younger who he would like to sit beside at a Company dinner.

📖 An 11-page handwritten document listing the 12 Members of his Court.

⚖️ A Moderator and councillor’s batons, suggesting that Robert was involved with the Edinburgh High Constables.

Curious to learn more, Camilla reached out to us. During her visit, she viewed her ancestor’s signature in the Company records and enjoyed a tour of the Hall.
