Our Impact
As one of the largest charitable organisations in Scotland, we help where it’s most needed. By prioritising care alongside progress, we strengthen communities, support individuals and carry forward a long tradition of meaningful giving.
Enterprise Fund
The Enterprise Fund invests in small start-ups to support individuals who may otherwise face barriers to opportunity. We help to ignite the ambitions of new entrepreneurs by offering financial and tailored professional support.
The Endowments Trust
The Endowments Trust supports people in Edinburgh and Midlothian who are facing hardship, particularly in later life. Established through generations of charitable giving, the Trust provides meaningful help through financial support, housing and long-term care.
By prioritising care alongside progress, we aim to build a more connected and resilient community.
The Merchant Company Charitable Trust
The Company has been responsible for multiple charitable trusts since its inception. Early activities focused on schools and education, but other funds were entrusted over time that came with criteria on who might benefit, by location, name, profession or gender.
In 2024, the Merchant Company Charitable Trust received approval from OSCR (the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) to bring together a number of long-standing Sundry Trusts into one consolidated charitable fund.

A Royal Company of Merchants initiative in collaboration with Challenges Worldwide, helping Edinburgh’s charitable sector to thrive.
