The Endowments Trust

The Endowments Trust

The Endowments Trust

The Endowments Trust awards grants each year to individuals and organisations working to improve lives across the city. Trustees from our Membership oversees this work, ensuring it remains fair, thoughtful and closely connected to the community.

The Endowments Trust offers financial and practical support to people aged 55 and over in Edinburgh or Midlothian who are experiencing hardship. This includes grants and help with essential items and care needs.

Applications are individually assessed, and each applicant is visited by the Company’s Almoner to ensure the support offered is appropriate.

In addition to its charitable grants, the Endowments Trust owns and manages properties across Edinburgh. This includes social and affordable housing, which provides supported homes for older people. These developments offer secure, comfortable living for those who may otherwise struggle to access suitable housing.

Brandfield Street

Completed in 2008–2009, our Brandfield Street development provides 20 high-quality amenity flats designed for older residents. The entire site is leased to Dunedin Canmore Housing Association, now part of the Wheatley Group, reflecting our commitment to trusted partnerships and long-term care.

These homes are open to people aged 60 and over, offering more than just a place to live. They provide safety, comfort and a genuine sense of community.

Little Road

Delivered in two phases, the Little Road development has created 48 homes within a supportive and inclusive neighbourhood:

Launched in 2023, the Community Grants Scheme supports community organisations across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Grants of up to £5,000 are awarded twice a year to support a wide range of local projects that improve lives and strengthen communities.

Applications are welcomed from organisations based in EH postcode areas, with funding directed across a broad range of priorities—from health and education to arts, sport, environment and social inclusion.

Since its launch, the scheme has distributed over £75,000 to 25 organisations, reaching hundreds of people across the region. From drama classes for children living with disabilities to winter clothing for families and sports programmes for teenagers, the grants have helped deliver practical, meaningful support where it is most needed.
